Well Deserved Vacation

Published by B under Sari-sari

My mom is leaving for the United States by the end of this month and she’ll be there for 6 months. She’ll be there with her older sister so I’m pretty sure they’ll be going around a lot and they’ll be going to some of of State travel. They’ll be staying in San Francisco with my cousin and somebody suggested they check out Branson real estate and rentals in Missouri. I’m really excited and happy for mom because I think she really deserves this vacation. I’m sure she’s already tired of taking care of all of us and this break would give her time for herself. I’m just gonna miss her a lot, especially since she won’t be here on Mother’s Day and on her birthday. But hey, if this will make her happy then I’m happy for her!

Red, Red Wine

Published by B under Sari-sari

One day, I’m gonna know more about wine. As in really know more about wine, you know? Especially red wine. Maybe I’ll join a wine of the month club or something like that. I remember a doctor in Anilao even bought a Wine for Dummies book just so he’ll learn more about wine. Anyway, I found this article on the net, for those who are interested and would like learn a little more about wine, like me:

How to Become a Wine Connoisseur

So you want to become an oenophile (a lover or connaisseur of wine). You don’t have to be a wine-maker or have a basement cellar in order to appreciate fine wine. Just follow these tips to start you on the road to a new hobby.

1. Get information from the experts. Read books on wine. Purchase wine guides. Subscribe to wine magazines.
2. Go to a wine shop and ask the staff for recommendations. Look for bottles of wine with write-ups near them, award citations and high magazine ratings. Try to go when you know the store is holding a tasting with samples.
3. Attend a local wine tasting or a wine appreciation class. These are held at adult schools, winemaking schools and fine restaurants.
4. Join a wine group.
5. Visit a winery. You’ll learn how wine is made, see how the grapes are grown and be taught the proper procedure for drinking wine.
6. Buy wines that match the taste of the food you’re serving.
7. Don’t just stick to traditional reds and whites. Try sparkling wines, ice wines and desert wines as well. Try wines that aren’t just from Italy, France and the Napa Valley. Try wines from New Zealand. For American wines, try South Dakota or Idaho. Internationally, try wines from Argentina, Portugal and Australia.
8. Learn about different grape varieties. Traditionally fine wine was made from mainly French grape varieties, but now a much wider range of grape varieties are being used.
9. Subscribe to online wine newsletters. They are free and informative.
10. Look for a wine school in your area. Most host courses or tastings. Local adult schools and restaurants also hold wine appreciation classes.
11. Have an informal tasting either at a friends house or a BYOB restaurant where each person brings a different bottle of wine. This way you can taste a bunch of different things without spending a lot of money. And you get a great deal of wine.
12. Make wine inexpensively at home. There are starter kits at homebrew supply stores or online; you learn about gravity, yeast, fermentation stages, clarification, and adjust yeast and flavorings such as oak. Wine’s taste changes most quickly in the first few months of fermentation.

Popcorn

Published by B under Sari-sari

Do you love popcorn? Ever dream of owning popcorn machines? I love popcorn! Especially recently, my nephew just learned how to make caramel popcorn. You just melt some butter, add brown sugar and a little vanilla syrup, then add the syrup to your cooked popcorn and voila! Your very own homemade caramel popcorn. We tried it on a microwave popcorn and on traditionally cooked popcorn. The difference is, the caramel flavor didn’t spread all throughout the traditionally cooked popcorn, unlike the microwaveable one. I think it’s because of the oil. We used the butter flavored microwave popcorn and we didn’t use oil or butter on the traditionally cooked popcorn. But either one still tastes good! Yummy!!!

Electricity Saver

Published by B under Sari-sari

Do you like receiving promotional products, you know, the try before you buy stuff? I remember about a month ago, two ladies came into our house offering a device that would help us save electricity. It’s the one that’s being sold at TV shopping channels, a small device that you just plug on an outlet and that’s it. The ladies are saying that they’re gonna give it to us for free then all we have to do is refer someone and that’s it. The one we referred doesn’t even have to buy it. Then they said we could try it for three months to see if it really works. I kept telling my mom and dad that I’m pretty sure it has some kind of catch because I’m sure they’re not just gonna give a 15k worth of something for nothing, or else, their company would go bankrupt. So I just left them and went upstairs already. The next day, my sister asked me what happened because she heard that the ladies were asking my mom and dad to pay 15k to get the product. Haha! I didn’t ask about it anymore but I wanted to tell them “See? I told you there’s a catch!”

Technology Terminologies

Published by B under Sari-sari

We’ve been hearing a lot of different terminologies that comes with technology and me, I don’t even know what they really or what’s their main purpose. The other day I posted about Fiber Optic Cables, and now I’m gonna post about CAT6. So what exactly is a CAT6? The letters CAT actually reminds of high school and the never Citizen Army Training during weekends. But that’s not the CAT we’re gonna talk about right now… CAT6 actually stands for Category 6, and it is a cable used for Gigabit Ethernet. And I didn’t know that cables has a maximum run rate limits. CAT6 cable runs are limited to a maximum recommended run rate of 100m (328 feet). So now we’ve all learned a little something new today. Maybe I should do this regularly here in my blog… do you think this is a good idea?

Golf

Published by B under Sari-sari

I’ve always wanted to learn how to play golf and be good at it. But the thing is, having golf as a hobby here in the Philippines is quite expensive. The golf equipments are expensive and then you need to be a member of the golf courses for you to be able to play. Another thing is, my friend who plays golf is already in the United States so I don’t really have anyone to play with. I have another friend who got a little bit interested with golf but she said that playing it often would change her form which she doesn’t want to happen cause she plays volleyball. I don’t have much option huh?
