Diwata

Published by B under Sari-sari

by Indio I

Noon ako’y nalulungkot at walang kasama
Kasamang nagmamahal, kasamang umuunawa
Kaya ako’y humingi ng tulong sa poong bathala
At kanyang ibinigay magandang diwata

Noon ako’y nalulungkot at walang kasama
Kasamang nagmamahal, kasamang umuunawa
Kaya ako’y humingi ng tulong sa poong bathala
At kanyang ibinigay magandang diwata

Diwata ikaw ang buhay ko
Diwata ikaw ang pag-asa ko
Diwata ikaw ang liwanag sa buhay kong madilim
Diwata ikaw lamang ang aking iibigin

I love Indio I! My friends and I play their tape over and over again in the car whenever we go to Anilao. Indio I is a local reggae band here in the Philippines. I tried looking for their CD but it’s not sold anymore in record bars. Good thing a friend of mine shared a copy of a few of their songs with me. Here’s more about Indio I from their Friendster profile:

Indio I is a band that was formed in 1994, to bring reggae music to a new level. They launched their first album in 1998 under Star Records. Songs like “Di Mo Lang Alam”, “S on My Chest”, and “Earth to Man” can still be heard over the radio and at the beach bars up to this very day.

Upon penetrating the local music scene, the band was given recognition by award-giving bodies and networks. At the 1997 NUROCK Awards, Indio I garnered 8 nominations, and at the 1998 Katha Awards, the band brought home the Best Reggae Song Trophy for “Di Mo Lang Alam”.

Since their inception Indio I has performed in some of the hottest nightspots and the most beautiful beaches in the country.

Vic Facultad: Vocalist/ No frills, in your face, raw vocal power.

Jun Lazo : Bassist / Simply groovy. Steady and laid-back, this groove-meister packs a lot of soul on each note.

Loloy Biscaro: Drummer / Steady Stylee. An experienced musician who brings plenty of surprises to the stage.

Leo: Keys / A man of few words but with a lot of cool.

PhotoHunt: Twist(ed)

Published by B under Sari-sari

It’s been a while since my last PhotoHunt entry but here is my photo for this week’s theme:

twine [twahyn] noun, verb
twined, twin·ing.

–noun
1. a strong thread or string composed of two or more strands twisted together.
2. an act of twining, twisting, or interweaving.
3. a coiled or twisted object or part; convolution.
4. a twist or turn in anything.
5. a knot or tangle.

This is a twine made of fiber. I bought this to be used for crafts or for gift-wrapping but never got to use it. It is just hanging at the back of my door for some years now.

Fluid Like A River

Published by B under Sari-sari

Living Like Water

The journey of water as it flows upon the earth can be a mirror of our own paths through life. Water begins its residence on Earth as it falls from the sky or melts from ice and cascades down a mountain into a tributary or stream. In the same way, we come into the world and begin our lives on Earth. Like a river that flows within the confines of its banks, we are born with certain defining characteristics that govern our identity. We are born in a particular time and place, into a specific family, and with certain gifts and challenges. Within these parameters, we move through life, encountering many twists, turns, and obstacles along the way—just as a river flows.

Water is a great teacher that shows us how to move through the world with grace, ease, determination, and humility. When a river breaks at a waterfall, it gains energy and moves on. As we encounter our own waterfalls, we may fall hard, but we always keep going. Water can inspire us not to become rigid with fear or hold fast to what is familiar. Water is brave and does not waste time clinging to its past but flows onward without looking back. At the same time, when there is a hole to be filled, water does not flee from it, fearful of the dark; instead, it humbly and bravely fills the empty space. In the same way, we can face the dark moments of our life rather than running away from them.

Eventually, a river will empty into the sea. Water does not hold back from joining with a larger body, nor does it fear a loss of identity or control. It gracefully and humbly tumbles into the vastness by contributing its energy and merging without resistance. Each time we move beyond our individual egos to become part of something bigger, we can try our best to follow the lead of the river.

High Dynamic Range Photography

Published by B under Interesting Facts

Ever stumbled upon the term HDR or High Dynamic Range Imaging or Photography? I did about a couple of months ago while I was browsing my friend’s multiply site. I was simply amazed by the photo so I did some googling and here’s what I found according to Wikipedia:

In image processing, computer graphics and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of exposures (the range of values between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.

High Dynamic Range Imaging was originally developed in the 1930s and 1940s by Charles Wyckoff. Wyckoff’s detailed pictures of nuclear explosions appeared on the cover of Life magazine in the early 1940s. The process of tone mapping together with bracketed exposures of normal digital images, giving the end result a high, often exaggerated dynamic range, was first reported in 1993, and resulted in a mathematical theory of differently exposed pictures of the same subject matter that was published in 1995. In 1997 this technique of combining several differently exposed images to produce a single HDR image was presented to the computer graphics community by Paul Debevec.

This method was developed to produce a high dynamic range image from a set of photographs taken with a range of exposures. With the rising popularity of digital cameras and easy-to-use desktop software, the term “HDR” is now popularly used to refer to this process. This composite technique is different from (and may be of lesser or greater quality than) the production of an image from a single exposure of a sensor that has a native high dynamic range. Tone mapping is also used to display HDR images on devices with a low native dynamic range, such as a computer screen.

I really wanted to try this out and I swear that as soon as I get my own DSLR, I’m gonna try this right away. Here’s another link to a great site explaining more about HDR with a few example photos. You can view it here. Hope you learned something new today. :)

Beach Inspired Room

Published by B under Sari-sari

I so want a beach inspired room. I want to paint my walls bluish green, like the color of the ocean, and my ceiling black and I’ll stick some glows-in-the dark star stickers so it’ll be like I’m stargazing at night. I would also love some teak furnitures, or any furniture that’s made of natural material. And of course I want one of those hanging lamps that’s made of cloth and bamboo that I could hang on one corner of my room. I’d also love a wind charm, but I don’t like the loud ones… I wanting something like the one in Anilao… the charms look like sun and it’s not too loud. The sound it makes, together with the sound of the waves, lulls me to a deep sleep. Maybe I could also play a soft background music like the sound of the waves so I’ll really feel like I’m near the beach! Haha! I miss the beach! I really wish I could go to one this summer.

For My Mom

Published by B under Sari-sari

My mom left for the US last Sunday. It hasn’t been a week yet and I miss her already. I really hope she could get the vacation she really deserves. I want them to go to different places, to travel around, even visit some real estate Branson, Missouri style. I know she’ll enjoy that. And I hope she wouoldn’t miss us a lot and get home sick. She really deserves that vacation after taking care of all of us here at home and working like mad just to get us through life. I’ll just miss her on her mother’s day and on her birthday. But it’s okay as long as she enjoys her vacation and that much needed break. I love you mom! See you soon and take care always! We miss you so much already! :)

Another Wishful Thinking

Published by B under Sari-sari

If I had unlimited resources, I would give my dad a gift that I’m pretty he’d love and appreaciate. I’d give him a complete Bose home theater system. He just loves watching concerts and listening to music. And I’m sure it’s something that he’d appreciate for the rest of his life. He’s retired now and watching concerts is one way of entertaining himself so he won’t get bored at home. he’s also into gardening. How I wish we have a big home lot so he could enjoy his gardening. I know he could also be good in landscaping if he was given the chance. So anyway, about the home theter system… it could also be one way for us, my family, to spend some quality time together. Especially with the kids, we could watch movies together and not spend too much money. And Aside from that, we couldn’t bring the kids to theaters anyway because they’re still young and are not allowed yet to most movies. And I think that this quality time would help my family a lot, especially now that we’re arguing most of the time. Just another wishful thinking…
